About the Economicals

Founded in 1950, the Economicals are the old boys of the London School of Economics. We play in the Amateur Football Combination, one of Britain's biggest amateur leagues, and our home pitches are at the wonderful LSE sportsground in Berrylands, New Malden. We currently run four teams, catering for all abilities, and play on Saturday afternoons.

When Sean Gollogly took over the running of the club in 1996, the club went from strength to strength. The first team won the old Southern Olympian League Senior Division 3 in 2000-01 and the Amateur Football Combination Senior Division 3 in 2002-03, as well as gaining promotion to Senior 1 in 2005/06. The second team won South 1 in 2005/06 and finished runners-up in Intermediate South the following season. The third team finished runners-up in South 3 in 2007/08. The fourth team won South 8 and the Spring Cup in 2005/06, and South-West 6 in 2007/08, as well as finishing runners-up in the LOB Cup.

The Club would welcome back any prodigal sons who have been lost in the football wilderness, as well as anybody that did not have a chance to play while at LSE and would now like to play on a regular basis. You do not have to be an LSE alumnus to represent the Club.

Membership
If you would like to rejoin the fold, please call or email Chris Cooper on 07802 419090. We welcome new members regardless of age or standard. At the last count there were over 50 alumni plying their appalling trade on Berrylands' palatial lawns, so it also provides a great way to stay in touch with old friends. Non-alumni are also welcome. Current fees are £40 affiliation and £6 per match.
